#GivingTuesday - A Place for Rebecca, You and Me

Let me tell you a story about my friend Rebecca. Rebecca attended one of our pop-ups at a local restaurant in downtown Raleigh. As she walked in, she had no idea what to expect. She was greeted by Table Raleigh folks and the staff at the restaurant. She sat down at the community table and shared a meal with a pastor from an area church, a college student, and a Table Raleigh board member. She chose the churro waffles (because well--who could resist those) and a Coke in a bottle, a meal she had never had. A kind server delivered her food and asked if she wanted anything else. The bill was presented and she was told to pay-what-you-can. She left as much as she could as tears began streaming down her face. She went outside and in a few short minutes came back with multiple thank you notes for us, the restaurant, and her server.

The note said, "Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have never been treated with so much dignity. Ever. Thank you for being kind to me, your hospitality in welcoming me, and serving the best meal of my life.

After handing the thank you notes to all of us, she then burst into tears and gave hugs all around. Rebecca has come back to every pop-up since and has paid as much as she could.

I know there will be hardships with opening Table Raleigh, I know that I will be tired from working 90 hour weeks, and I know that I may not get everything right. But what I am sure in is why I am doing this. I know I am creating a place at the table for Rebecca, for you, and for me.  Will you join me in making this possible?

Giving Tuesday is a global giving movement occurring today. #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community.

As we get ready to open our cafe in early 2018, we welcome your support. We have listed donation amounts in our online catalog as examples of what we can do with your contribution -- we will spend all funds in the areas needed most to serve all, regardless of means.

Click here to check out our online catalog and consider making a donation this Giving Tuesday. As always, we couldn't do this without you! Thank you for your continued support of Table Raleigh and for creating a place at the table for all the Rebeccas of the world.

Peace,
