Table family, you truly are the best there is.
Table Family,
It’s been a year.
A hard year, a grieving year, a hopeful year, a year of finding new ways. There are a million words I could stick in there to describe the roller coaster of 2020. I know you could add a million more. But even in the mess, at Table there have been some incredible things. Some moments so full of hope you could taste it. And the only reason that’s been possible for Table in this year? You. You made it happen.
I get to see your generosity played out in everyday ways, and y’all? I never stop being amazed.
Here’s just one everyday example of what you make possible. We have a Mom and her son who eat with us daily. They’re newly food insecure--a situation so many people find themselves in lately. But this little family? We have fallen head over heels for them. The son, James, runs up as soon as he hits the block, ready to greet everybody with a grin. The mother, Angela, follows behind, knowing that James is safe with us.
On their most recent visit, James ordered a yogurt bowl and Angela ordered a sandwich. When they had their curbside food and James was playing, Angela said, "Maggie, please thank your staff for welcoming us in and making us feel so loved. My son feels safe here. He feels excited to be here. His birthday is even in December and you know what he asked for? A salad from the cafe.....he doesn't get greens much and he loves your salad and your yogurt bowls."
Even James, at age 4, can understand what welcome feels like. It feels like dignity, like choice, like good food and friendly smiles when both are in short supply, no questions asked. Thank you for making Table happen, even in this hard, crazy year of a year.
Friends, things are looking up for 2021, but we’re not out of the weeds yet. We still miss indoor seating and seeing the community you build around our tables. We miss hosting events. And of course we are impatient to make use of our awesome new space and bigger kitchen.
We’ll get there.
But for now, just hear this: thank you, Table family. You truly are the best there is.
and PS. This is not our newsletter, simply a one time email to all of you all that have supported us in these crazy 2020 months. Thank you, thank you.
Real hugs,
Maggie
