Here is our hope..

Table Family,

I write you today full of hope. Sad. Overwhelmed by all I can’t know. Tearful. And...hopeful.

Table has been closed for weeks to extend our space, grow our community, and sustain our mission into the future. We believed we would re-open July 8th, but pandemic delays have set us back again. While our new open date is uncertain, this I know for sure: our cafe’s mission has continued, even while our doors have been closed.

Our staff sat down over the weekend and talked about racial equity, privilege, and how we can make Table more inclusive for our current and future staff, volunteers, and patrons. We committed to hold each other accountable, to acknowledge our privilege, to meet regularly to educate ourselves on racial justice, and to work every single day towards anti-racism.

Black Lives Matter’s mission is, “to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.”

Yes, yes, yes. There, Table family, is my hope.

Equity is at the core of Table’s values and we aspire to live that through our mission. My hope is that Table can be a place of Black flourishing-- a space for “Black imagination and innovation...centering Black joy.”

We are trying to be better, so we can do better.

We can only do this because you help make it possible. Thank you for joining me, even now--especially now!--in this work of hope.

With gratitude,

Maggie
